Imagine that you are a medical student and part of your training involves using a Wiimote in a virtual surgery. Can you picture it? Well Wired reports that an MIT research fellow is combining the motion sensing technology of the Wiimote and the virtual world of Second Life to create low cost but effective training simulators for a variety of industries including medical manufacturers and nuclear power plants. The creator of these simulators, David E. Stone, says the ability to easily integrate motion devices and everyday computers “will change the ways people interact with computers”.
