Nintendo has submitted a patent for a hand-held device with motion sensing technology. The patent details the ability to detect up/down AND right/left movement as well as the speed of movement.
The patent reads “These sensor and switch detect at least one of an amount (e.g. tilt amount, movement amount, impact amount or the like) and a direction (e.g. tilt direction, movement direction, impact direction or the like).” Looks like more exciting game developments to come from Nintendo.
One of my favorite game boy advance games is Warioware, which features a Gyro Sensor that detects sideways motion. I think this is definitely a promising addition to a hand-held device. Warioware was just a bunch of microgames but I could definitely see this technology utilized with a variety of games, like shaking dice on Monopoly or even a role-playing game.
