Meet the Madden Cover Candidates 1 - 4 [Opinion]

To build excitement for Madden 10, EA is profiling the 9 Madden cover candidates. The Madden 10 cover announcement will be at the 2009 NFL Draft in NYC. Read below for my take on the first 4 nominees.

Ben Roethlisberger

EA says: “With Big Ben, it’s not about stats, it’s about the way he plays the game. At 6′5″ 240 lbs, there isn’t a tougher QB to bring down in the league.”

Carmen says: 2 Super Bowl rings at 27 is very impressive, but Steelers teams have historically been all about the DEFENSE. So is it possible to put the entire team on the cover? They definitely deserve it just as much as Big Ben.

Brandon Jacobs

EA says: “Have you ever ran full speed, face first, into a brick wall? I know a lot of middle linebackers in the NFL who have. The wall’s name was Brandon Jacobs.”

Carmen says: I’m contractually obligated to not like any Giants players. Just kidding. :) Jacobs is a beast on the field and his ability to break tackles makes him unstoppable. What’s more impressive is that even with his knee injury this season, he still put up great numbers. Jacobs finished the regular season with 219 carries for 1089 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson

EA says: “…the heart and soul of the Minnesota Vikings. Talk about fighting for every yard, AD fought for 1,760 of them in 2008, leading the league in only his 2nd year on the job, and almost single-handedly guiding the Vikings to the NFC North crown.”

Carmen says: Adrian Peterson is an amazing force on the field and has put up very impressive numbers so far. Even with a mediocre offensive line, Peterson was able to exploit defenses and use his talents to get his team into the playoffs.

Ed Reed

EA says: “Simply put, Ed Reed is a ball hawk. He dominated opposing offenses last year, leading the league in interceptions with 9, including his NFL-record 107 yard TD return against Philly.”

Carmen says: As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, maybe we should collectively thank Ed Reed for embarrassing us so much that we turned things around and ended up in the playoffs. Defensive players should definitely get more love and the Madden cover honor would be a step in the right direction.

So what do you think so far? I’ll add the remaining candidates as they are announced.
